VITAE
Dr. Laura Avery, Assistant Professor of Voice and Musical Theatre, is currently in her sixth year as an applied voice instructor at Sam Houston State University. She serves as Vocal Coach and Music Director for the musical productions at SHSU and teaches Theatre Speech I and II, Upper Level Musical Theatre Workshop and History of the American Musical. Dr. Avery earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in voice science and pedagogy from the University of Houston. She is a certified Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) vocal instructor specializing in contemporary commercial singing styles. She was, in March of 2007, one of 29 singers chosen to compete in the American Traditions Vocal Competition as part of the Savannah Music Festival. She is a member of The Voice Foundation, The Voice and Speech Trainers Association, Texas Educational Theatre Association and The National Association of Teachers of Singing.
