It is primarily designed for those who will specialize in mathematics teaching at the pre-university, or possibly two-year college, level.

Core courses are taught on campus in Huntsville, as well as at remote sites, such as The University Center in Conroe, through Interactive Television (ITV). Some elective courses are also offered via ITV or online formats.

Ten students are required for SHSU faculty to teach courses on-site. If this number is not reached, students may still pursue an MA degree by taking courses via ITV, online, or on the SHSU campus in Huntsville.
