Fees
Registration Fee
The registration fee is assessed at the rate of $181.00 per semester credit hour (SCH); the non-refundable Administrative Fee for each course is $30.00. Therefore, a 3 SCH course is $573.00; a 1 SCH course is $211.00. Paymets can be made by MasterCard, American Express and ACH (E-Checks) and are accepted online through My Sam. Payments made by credit card will incur a convenience fee charged at the time of payment. Please note: Once an online payment transaction has occurred, the Convenience Fee is non-refundable. Students owing a past due balance to the University will not be permitted to register for Correspondence Courses until their balance is paid. In the event a check is returned unpaid, there will be a $25.00 charge by the SHSU Business Office. Post-dated checks will not be accepted. No assignments can be accepted unless a student's financial accounts are in order.
Financial Aid Access
The largest source of funds (scholarships, grants, loans, and employment) is from federal entities. To receive Title IV Federal assistance to attend college, a student must be enrolled as a regular student and making academic progress toward a degree or certification offered by the school. Students enrolled solely in correspondence courses are NOT eligible for Title IV Federal assistance. For more information, contact the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office at 936.294.1774 or access their website at www.shsu.edu/fao.

Veterans and Family Members.
The Hazlewood Act provides assistance for Texas veterans and dependents of Texas veterans who died while performing military service and who have exhausted their federal Veterans Administration benefits. To be eligible, the students must be enrolled in a course that meets the requirements of a component area in the SHSU Core Curriculum or that is applicable toward the student's Official Degree Plan that has been designated within the student's major department. For further information regarding the Hazlewood Act, contact the Veterans Assistance staff in the Registrar's Office, telephone number (936) 294-1046.
Transfer to Another Correspondence Course.
A transfer is permitted when a satisfactory reason is offered and approved. A transfer will normally not be approved after two or more lessons have been submitted for grading. Only one transfer per course will be considered. The transfer fee is $20.00, (includes a new packet and new bar codes) plus $10.00 per lesson submitted for grading. In the event a transfer is granted, the student's original enrollment date will remain in effect.
Extension of Enrollment Period.
A student may request a one-time extension (6 months). Your course will be extended from the original enrollment date. The extension fee is $25.00.
Postage and Handling Fee.
A one-time special postage and handling fee of $25.00 will be charged to any student taking a correspondence course from a mailing address outside the continental U.S. NOTE: The special postage and handling fee of $25.00 does not apply to students with APO or FPO addresses.
Replacement of Lessons and Materials.
A fee for the replacement of all the lessons in a correspondence course is $10.00. The fee for the replacement of bar code labels is $2.50 per set.
Dropping a Correspondence Course.
You may drop a correspondence course anytime before the final examination without academic penalty, and the course will not appear on your official transcript. If you open the final examination envelope, however, you may no longer drop the course and a grade will be assigned. Grades become a permanent part of the student's SHSU record.
