Gerneral Information and Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

  • Courses usually consist of a certain amount of “lessons” (general assignments – could be quizzes or essays) and 1 final examination
  • The final examination usually counts for more percentage than the lessons
  • Students have up to one year to complete a course (unless they are graduating within that year – refer them to the “deadlines” section of our website)
  • Students must be enrolled in the course for 60 days before they may take their final exam
  • Students may enroll anytime (even in between) semesters for a correspondence course (unless they are graduating within the next semester – refer them to the “deadlines” section of our website)

General Policies for Registering

  • Students may only take 2 correspondence courses at one time
  • Payment is due at the time of enrollment

 Who can register?

Students who:

  • Have at least a 2.0 GPA (for 1 course) or a 2.5 GPA (for 2 courses)
  • Have been accepted to Sam Houston State
  • Do not have any outstanding blocks (must be advised for graduation, etc)
  • Have not previously failed the class before
  • Have met the prerequisites for the course(s)

1. How do I register?

 

Students must be accepted to Sam Houston State University prior to enrolling in a correspondence course. Students need to complete the Apply Texas application at applytexas.org in order to apply. Additional requirements may be needed. Please see the Undergraduate Admissions Office for additional information.

Print and complete the enrollment registration form and mail to the address listed on the top of the application, fax, scan, or bring it to our office located at 1733 Ave. J, Smith-Kirkley 144, Huntsville, TX  77340

2. When is payment due?

It may take 3-5 days to process an enrollment request and the payment is due once the enrollment process has been completed, so to pay online, login to SHSU.EDU and then click on My Sam.  Payments made by credit card will incur a convenience fee charged at the time of payment.  Please note: Once an online payment transaction has occurred, the Convenience Fee is non-refundable. 

3. How do I drop a course?

There is a drop form in your packet or you may access the following online form:

Fill-out the form and submit it to us either by mail, fax, scan, or bring it to our office.

4. How do I request an extension?

6. How do I request replacement of a syllabus or replacement of bar code labels?

7. If I drop my course will this show up on my transcript?

 

No, the course will not appear on your transcript at all .

8. When should I submit my final exam application?

 

When you have submitted and received your graded lessons back from your course grader then you may submit your final exam application allowing two weeks for the application to be processed. There is a final exam application in your packet or you may access the online application.

9. How long will it take to post a grade after I have taken my final exam?

It generally takes a course grader two weeks to grade and enter a final exam grade.

 

10. How can I request an official transcript?

You may contact the Registrar's Office at 936.294.1035 to request an official transcript.
