Texas Youth in Technology

(funded by a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission)

Teacher Workshop on Computer Science

Sam Houston State University

AB1 206 (directions)

11-12 June 2010

The goal of this workshop is to offer suggestions for advising students interested in this area and cover some possibilities for improving student interest through classes related to computer science. Because many parents and other authority figures have misconceptions of what computer science is and where it is headed, we will address these misconceptions in order to help teachers combat them. In addition, we have sessions that introduce ways to incorporate computer technology into courses in order to encourage student interest in technology.

The TYIT grant from the Texas Workforce commission provides $1300 in travel stipends. These stipends will be allocated by lot, if necessary, in amounts relative to hotel expenses and distance traveled. Checks will be mailed after the workshop, so even those who receive a stipend will be responsible for paying their expenses, initially.
