ScholarshipsStudents age 22 or younger that
are interested in a computer
science major are invited to apply for a scholarship to cover part or
all of their next semester's tuition at Sam Houston State University.
Priority will be given to students who are new to the major and have
just completed or are planning to start taking courses leading to an
undergraduate
computer science degree (specifically, CS 146 and CS 147). As the grant
only provides us with a limited amount of funding, we ask that all
applicants write a short essay on why they are interested in computer
science and their hopes and plans for where it will lead them. Students
lacking a college transcript should include a letter of recommendation,
preferably from a computer, mathematics, or science teacher. Include
your essay with this application and,
if you have not already done so, include a declaration
of major form as a way of confirming your intention to major in
computer science; have all materials sent to
Ken Hartness Computer Science SHSU Box 2090 Huntsville, TX 77341
Scholarships range from $891 to $1,783 for one semester, depending on
the number and quality of the applicants. You must be admitted for Fall
2010 in order for us to award you a scholarship and officially declare
your major as computer science. If you wish to fill out a declaration
of major/minor form, use CS as your major and either CSE, IA, or IS as
the first minor. You do not need a minor, but you are welcome to add
something as a second minor if you really want. The "first minor" is
really a declaration of emphasis: CSE is a traditional computer science
major, IA includes courses related to information assurance and digital
forensics, and IS includes courses related to designing and programming
for information systems. Note: our first deadline has passed, but we still have enough
funds to award additional scholarships for the Fall semester. Please
submit applications as early as possible. We will not be able to
consider any applications after July 31st. |
