Research Interests
My main research interests include visualization and modeling of multimedia information, particularly of information extracted from databases, human-computer interaction, theories of actions, agents, and temporal logic. As an offspring of my previous work, I have started research on web modeling, web services, and applications of intelligent software agents on the web.

Biographical Outline
Dr. Graciela Gonzalez joined the faculty of SHSU in the Fall of 2001. She received a Master of Science in Computer Science degree in 1994, and a Ph.D in Computer Science in December, 2000, both from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). On her Dissertation she presented a display specification language based on SQL that allows for the specification of complex multimedia displays and temporal presentations to be included using simple SQL-like instructions in the query itself. She also presented the syntax and semantics of a new non-Markovian action language used to model the display specification language.
During the course of her studies, she started teaching classes at UTEP, and was actively involved in reviewing five Master Thesis based on the display specification language subject of her dissertation. She was the main author to published papers in prestigious conferences such as ACM Multimedia ’98, IEEE’s ICDE ’98 and ICMCS ’99, and co-author to a paper published in the Journal of Multimedia Tools and Applications. She also reviewed the book Principles Of Multimedia Database Systems, Solutions Manual by V.S. Subrahmanian, published by Morgan Kaufman in 1998.
At the same time, from 1991 through 1996, she worked full time as Software Engineer and then Project Leader at EDM International, in charge of 5 Software Engineers. There she did development for Candle Corp., and later designed and oversaw development of a high-volume electronic imaging system, capable of controlling the flow of over 250,000 images per day for image enhancement, automatic character recognition, and manual entry by hundreds of operators. She also worked in upper management and technological development for the corporate offices of Ingles Individual, an English School franchise, for 4 years, concentrating on development of interactive educational resources, computer-aided video production, and web development.
Dr. Gonzalez's main research interests include multimedia databases, human-computer interaction and Intelligent Interfaces, theories of actions, agents, and temporal logic. As an offspring of her previous work, she has started research on the relatively new fields of Web Semantics and modeling, Web Services, and the application of intelligent software agents on the web.
