Parasitic plants obtain resources through other plants through modified organs called haustoria, which invade the tissues of other plants, drawing resources from them.  Parasitic plants exhibit adaptations to both the external environment and the internal environment of the host.  I am trained as a plant systematists and am broadly interested in the taxonomy, evolution, and biology of parasitic plants.  My lab group includes both graduate and undergraduate students working in field, herbarium, and molecular botany projects.
