Hello! On behalf of our students, faculty, and staff, I welcome you to the Mass Communication Department at Sam Houston State University. I’m happy you've chosen to visit our website, and I hope you find it accessible and useful.
The Mass Communication Department at SHSU has a long-standing legacy of quality teaching, personalized instruction, and service to the media industries. Our graduates enter the market with an ear to the ground, an eye to the future, and awareness of the impacts of their work in a global environment.
Our mission at Sam is to educate our students to be responsible, creative, ethical, and competitive participants in a rapidly changing mediascape. Our department is housed in the Dan Rather Communications Building, a facility with two television studios, multiple video and audio editing labs, FCC-licensed radio station, and newspaper production offices.
Students also work in the field, producing sports and special events programs with our new multi-camera remote truck. Importantly, our internship program allows students to work with media practitioners from around the country, building competence, confidence, and a vital professional network.
