Students who are preparing to teach in Texas must first identify the grade level that they prefer; then select a teaching field. At SHSU, teacher certification programs are offered to undergraduates in the areas listed below. Certification for students who have a bachelors degree is offered at the post-baccalaureate level in the grade levels designated with an asterisk*
Elementary School: Early Childhood through Grade Six (major in Interdisciplinary Studies)
• Generalist (teaching all subjects)
• Bilingual Generalist (Spanish)
• Generalist with EC-12 Special Education
Middle School: Grades Four through Eight (major in Interdisciplinary Studies)*
• Mathematics
• Mathematics & Science (Composite)
• English Language Arts and Reading & Social Studies (Composite)
All-Level: Early Childhood through Grade 12 (major in the teaching field)*
• Physical Education
• Art
• Music (Choral or Instrumental)
