Student Services and Certification
Education Preparation Services provide information and support to teacher candidates through their certification program in five student service areas.
The areas are: (1) Educator Preparation Program admission, (2) advisement, (3) field experience, (4) TExES preparation, and (5) certification in the State of Texas. In coordination with the faculty and staff in the College of Education, the above services provide essential assistance in the preparation of future educators, and students are encouraged to take advantage of all resources available.
From program admission to graduation candidates receive advisement specific to their area of education, field experience placement as SHSU teacher candidates (pre-service teachers) in accredited public school campuses in school districts that are members of the Sam Houston Innovative Partnerships with Schools (SHIPS), preparation for TExES content tests and TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) tests.
In coordination with the faculty and staff in the College of Education, students and candidates are encouraged to take advantage of all resources available through Education Preparation Services, preparing future educators in Texas. All students seeking a teaching certificate will need to apply for the Educator Preparation Program through SamWeb and Tk20. Program specific requirements must be met before a student can be considered regularly admitted to the program.
All students enrolled in education courses with a field experience component in the public schools are required to APPLY at the beginning of the semester to the Educator Preparation Program before beginning their first field experience. Applications are on-line and payment of $75.00 can also be submitted on-line or by check to the Educator Preparation Services office (TEC Room 217A).
