Welcome Incoming Freshmen
The Sam Houston State PGA Golf Management program, a 4.5 year college curriculum for aspiring PGA Professionals, is a structured educational program accredited by The PGA of America. This pathway to membership blends the PGA PGM Program courses and requirements with a bachelor’s degree.
Students in the SHSU program will cover the same course material and must complete the same requirements as PGA apprentices. Work experience activities, 16 months of internship work and pass the Playing Ability Test. However, they will do so in addition to their regular college course load. These requirements satisfy The PGA of America's membership requirement and students will graduate Class "A" Members of The PGA of America.
Students attending the Sam Houston State PGA Golf Management program will graduate with a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration, with a major in General Business Administration and a specialization in PGA Golf Management. Sam Houston State University's College of Business Administration is accredited by the AACSB-International (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). Classes have been designed to aid the students in the completion of the PGA's educational program. Class topics include Retail Merchandising and Inventory Management, Turfgrass Management, and Food and Beverage Management, in addition to the University curriculum.
Students in the university program are not considered apprentices because they are not required to be eligibly employed as they complete their course work. They are, however, required to complete a series of internships at PGA Recognized Golf Facilities. Furthermore, PGA Golf Management University students are not required to attend seminars at the PGA Education Center in Florida. Instead, their seminars are conducted on campus and scheduled and conducted by PGA PGM faculty. Students can graduate with a bachelor’s degree in several majors (i.e., Marketing, Business Administration, Hospitality Administration, Recreation and Park Management). Upon completion of all PGA PGM Program requirements, graduation from the university and documentation of eligible employment, students are elected to membership in The PGA of America.
NOTE: An individual must be either a U.S. Citizen or resident alien to be elected to PGA membership.
NOTE: All PGA Golf Management University Program Graduates are required to complete a background check prior to applying for membership.
Academic Common Market

The Academic Common Market is a tuition-savings program for college students in the 16 member states who want to pursue degrees, including PGA Golf Management, that are not offered by their in-state institutions. Students can enroll in out-of-state institutions that offer their degree program and pay the institution's in-state tuition rates.
Residents of Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia can qualify for in-state tuition rates because none of these states offer a PGA accredited PGA Golf Management program.
