Some nice pictures of our students, work and equipment.

HansenSphereRotationT

This is an illustration taken from the results of my most recent research.  Here is an example of a Hansen Solubility Sphere in a rotating frame.  For a better video showing the Hansen solubility sphere of 2-nitroaniline see Dr. Williams’ video page.

TN CO collection

The physical chemistry lab students collect a sample of carbon monoxide from Dr. Williams’ Yamaha VStar 650 motorcycle.

TN Hyperion2000

A view of the new Bruker Hyperion 2000 FTIR microscope that was installed in Dr. Williams’ laboratory in November 2005.

TN MicroATR

A closeup view of the MicroATR objective as it analyzes the compounds present in an Excedrin® caplet.

TN CheezitSpec01

A web-cam view through the Cheez-It Spectrometer – Dr. Williams’ favorite in-class demonstration instrument.  The Cheez-It spectrometer uses a discarded box of Cheez-Its® gathered from Dr. Joe Nibler’s trash and a 2” x 2” piece of diffraction grating gathered from Dr. John Loeser’s trash during Dr. Williams’ graduate days at Oregon State University.  This spectrometer can resolve the spin-orbit splitting in the sodium emission spectrum if one narrows the slits by pinching the corner of the box.  Truly, two professors’ trash is another one’s treasure!

TN Irganox

A picture of the 56-node IBM linux cluster that Dr. Williams purchased and managed for the Pantex Plant.
