In today’s competitive job market, it is important for students to take advantage of the resources offered by Career Services. Students need to focus on selling their strengths. So much of the application and interview process is new to them, however. It can be a major distraction. Career Services helps students get the technical details right, and provides support that gives students the confidence to focus on demonstrating the skills and personal characteristics that employers are looking for. This can be a big advantage for the student in both the application phase and the interview phase of finding the right job to launch their new career.

The range of comprehensive services provided by the SHSU Career Services office is very impressive! I know that when I refer students and alumni there they will receive high-quality support, whether they’re seeking an on-campus or off-campus job, interested in resume development or interview preparation assistance, or need to know more about an upcoming job fair. The special events such as the Etiquette Dinner are also great resources for job seekers. I’m proud to be on the Advisory Board of this dynamic Career Services office!

“UT Career Services played a major role in preparing me for my job search. They helped me prepare a professional resume, they brought recruiters to campus, and kept extensive records of employers and graduate schools. Additionally, they continued to offer their job search services for years after graduation. That was the University of Texas, and I have been impressed that the SHSU Career Services has the same vision and provides even MORE support!”

“I have had the pleasure of working with SHSU Career Services for several years, and continue to be impressed with their commitment to helping students. They have implemented new programs and services in addition to improving the services they have been providing to our students for years. By implementing "JOBS for KATS" and utilizing other technologies, they are able to communicate more effectively with Educator Preparation Services, our teacher candidates, and perhaps most importantly, with potential employers in local and distant school districts throughout the state.”
