Programs to Prepare Teachers for Secondary Education

Program Highlights :

· Teacher candidates should select a major to serve as a teaching content area

· Teacher candidates should select a minor in secondary education that includes 24 semester hours including six hours of student teaching.

· Teacher candidates should complete a majority of their content area courses before beginning certification course work.

Foundations (6 hours) taken near end of the junior year

SED 374 Human Growth and Development

SED 383 Designing Instruction Through Technology Integration

Pedagogy Methods Block (12 hours) taken at the beginning of the senior year

RDG 392 Reading in Secondary Schools

SED 394 Classroom Management for Secondary Schools

SED 464 Methods of Teaching in Secondary Schools

Professional Field Experience (9 hours) taken near the end of the senior year

SED 480 Responsibilities of the Professional Educator

SED 496 Student Teaching in the Secondary Classroom

SED 497 Student Teaching in the Secondary Classroom
