Academic Studies: Programs to Prepare Teachers for Elementary and Middle School Education

Program Highlights :

· Program offers degrees leading to certification in preschool through eighth grade in the areas of bilingual education, early childhood education, reading/language arts, special education, English as a second language, English/language arts and reading, mathematics, science, and social studies

· Candidates should consult with the Educator Preparation Advisor and be assigned an advisor from the department of their teaching field.

Certification Areas:

• Academic Studies EC-4 ( Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grade)
  Leading to:
  • Bilingual (BA Degree and Generalist Certification)
  • Early Childhood (BS Degree and Generalist Certification)
  • English as a Second Language (BS Degree and Generalist Certification)
  • English Language Arts and Reading (BS Degree and Generalist Certification)
  • Special Education (BS Degree and Generalist Certification w/SPD Endorsement)  

• Academic Studies 4-8 ( 4th grade through 8th grade)
  Leading to:
  • English/Language Arts and Reading (BS Degree with 4-8 Certification)
  • Mathematics (BS Degree with 4-8 Certification)
  • Science (BS Degree with 4-8 Certification)
  • Social Studies (BS Degree with 4-8 Certification)

• Academic Studies EC-8 ( Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade)
  Leading to:
  • English/Language Arts and Reading (BS and EC-4 Generalist Certification and 4-8 Certification
  • Mathematics (BS and EC-4 Generalist Certification and 4-8 Certification

• Academic Studies EC-12 ( Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade)
  Leading to:
  • Special Education (BS Degree with EC-12 Certification)
