Research Interests

I am an avian behavioral ecologist interested in mating systems, breeding biology and conservation of songbirds. Specific areas of research include female extra-pair-mating tactics, evolution of extra-pair mating systems, parental investment strategies, brood parasitism and nest predation.

Current Projects

Current research projects in which my students and I are involved include:
1) Alarm call recognition in nestling Carolina Wrens; 2) Patterns of parental care in Carolina Wrens; and 3) Predation on artificial songbird nests in natural and urbanized habitats. I have been studying a population of Carolina Wrens in Texas for the last 7 years with the goal of maintaining a long-term dataset on the breeding biology of this species.
