At least one Science course should be completed in first semester of second year prior to taking 300- and 400-level courses.
Graphic Design Portfolio Review
SHSU Graphic Design students will be required to successfully complete a portfolio review in order to continue in the program. This review is designed to assess your strengths and weaknesses, and offer you a forum to demonstrate your readiness to move forward in the program.
Graphic Design students that have completed ARTS 2323 (Principles of Graphic Design) and are enrolled in or have completed ARTS 3322 (Typography), will be expected to participate in the Graphic Design Portfolio Review, which will take place at the end of ARTS 3322.
Students will be evaluated in the areas specified on the Graphic Design Portfolio Evaluation Form, and must receive a score of 80 or higher in order to enroll in ARTS 3323 (Graphic Design in Context). Those scoring below 80 will not be allowed to move forward in the Graphic Design program, but will have the option to participate one additional time in the next subsequent review. Students choosing to change their major from Graphic Design to another BFA area will be required to participate in the Departments BFA Review. Students failing a combination of any two re- views will not be eligible for the BFA, but may pursue the BA degree in Art.
Enrollment in ARTS 3323 (Graphic Design in Context) will be held until the review results have been deter- mined. Students successfully completing the review will be permitted to enroll in ARTS 3323. Students failing to pass the Graphic Design Portfolio Review will not be allowed to enroll in ARTS 3323.
Requirements
• Presentation of all work from ARTS 2323 and ARTS 3322
• Five projects from foundation classes outside Graphic Design including two drawings, and three projects of your choice.
• A self-evaluation statement demonstrating your interests in graphic design, your strengths and weaknesses, and your goals for moving forward in the profession.
Art electives in the BFA curriculum may be chosen from all 400-level studio art courses. Most 400-level art studio courses may be repeated for credit (see course listing).
A student considering graduate school after completing the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art degree should take 15 to 18 semester credit hours in the area of specialization: Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture, or Ceramics. BFA Studio Art students are encouraged to minor in Art History by taking two additional Advanced Art History courses. Not all art courses are offered each semester. Consult the Schedule of Classes and your advisor before registration. |
