Teaching Area: Drawing and Painting
Born in Dallas, 1969, Matthew Guest grew up in the suburbs. His early years were spent at Good Shepherd Episcopal School. There he wore a white shirt and blue pants everyday. Evel Knievel, Planet of the Apes, and Wacky Packages were his main obsessions. In 1977 Star Wars was released and obliterated interest in all else. Matt would eventually see the film over seventy times, memorize the dialouge, and collect hundreds of dollars of Star Wars merchandise. For a brief time he fancied himself a science fiction aficionado, but, with the exception of the film Alien, he disliked every other "Sci-Fi" movie. The first film he ever walked out on was Star Trek the Motion Picture. As a High School Freshman Matt entered Jesuit College Preparatory. He wore slacks, tie, blazer, and dress shoes everyday.
In his later years Matt earned a BFA in Printmaking at Texas Christian University and a MFA at University of South Florida. When he published his first comic book with Fantagraphics Books he fulfilled an adolescent dream. Contemporary Arts Museum in Tampa, Fl. invited him to participate in the group show For All the Wrong Reasons. His work was in the 2005 Texas Biennial. Now living in Huntsville Matt continues to paint and draw comics in attempt to fulfill more adolescent dreams.
