Assistant Professor Art Building E, R116 936.294.4572 lkg008@shsu.edu Teaching Area: Art History, Visual Culture Leanne Gilbertson received her B.A. in Art History from Montana State University and a M.A. in Art History from University of Iowa. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. (2009) in Visual and Cultural Studies from University of Rochester, where her studies were supported by a Jacob K. Javits fellowship and Henry Luce Foundation dissertation grant. Prior to joining the faculty at SHSU, she served as Visiting Lecturer of Modern and Contemporary Art at the University of Pittsburgh and as an adjunct faculty member at Bowling Green State University. She has also served as Curatorial Assistant at the Andy Warhol Film Project at the Whitney Museum of American Art and as a curatorial and education intern at MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art). Her writing has been published in Art Journal and InVisible Culture. Recently, she has been invited to present her research at an Andy Warhol symposium at Harvard University and at a conference reconsidering the significance of postwar queer underground cinema at Yale University. Her dissertation considers how post-WWII artists explored intermedia possibilities to contest dominant visual culture and create subcultural communities. Research Interests: Modern and Contemporary Art, Critical Theory, Gender Studies, intersections of cultural performance and visual art.
