Jasmyne Graybill
Lecture The University of Texas at San Antonio, M.F.A. WASH 936.293.8401 jlg056@shsu.edu Teaching Area: WASH Jasmyne Graybill teaches WASH, an experimental studio program that explores contemporary issues surrounding the visual arts. She has earned an MFA in painting and drawing from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a BFA in painting from the University of North Texas. Her work has been exhibited throughout Texas, including recent solo exhibitions at Cactus Bra and the UTSA Satellite Space in San Antonio. As an interdisciplinary artist, Graybill explores the complex relationships that arise between human beings and nature through her paintings, sculptures, and installations. Her current sculptures investigate the processes of adaptation by taking household objects and cultivating fictional versions of lichen, mold, fungus, and barnacles on their surfaces. “My work is commenting on nature’s uncanny ability to adapt in synthetic environments. These intricate sculptures address the struggles that ensue when the human desire for order clashes with the natural order of life.” |
