The WASH

Who takes it?

All students fit into one of 4 categories. First includes incoming freshmen, maybe with AP or Dual credit hours, but who were enrolled in a High school the previous semester. Second includes incoming transfer students, who’s last enrollment was at a college or University, but with no SHSU hours. Third includes students with SHSU hours, currently or previously enrolled, but none in Art and fourth includes students with SHSU, currently or previously enrolled, with SHSU art credits. All students, who haven’t previously passed WASH, must complete the WASH block first before they will be allowed to take any other Art courses at SHSU. Depending on the category a student may take the WASH block the first semester they are at SHSU or they may take academics for a year or so.

WASH is required for all SHSU Art students as its content is fundament to the Art program. This content-driven foundation coursework is unique in the state of Texas. When a student has completed the 1311, 2311, or 1312 at another school, they received full course credit, but will be required to complete the WASH block as well.

Courses: Arts 1313, 1314 and 1315.
