AP
credit
What
is the process?
A
student produces work under direction in High School. This work forms a
portfolio under AP guidelines with a general area and a concentration. The work
is sent to the AP center in Princeton, during the Spring
semester. By June/July the work has been evaluated and returned to the student.
When the student sends in the portfolio, they indicate to which schools they
want the scores to be sent. If they’ve not selected SHSU then they need to
contact the AP center at Princeton and have the scores sent here to the SHSU
Testing Center. When the testing is for Art History the
Testing Center gives automatic credit when the score is 3 or above. When
the score received is for Art studio, majors must have a 4 or above and
non-majors need a 3 or above to receive course credit. The SHSU Testing Center
relays the student name and ID to the Art Office at the time they receive these
studio scores. The student receives a letter from the SHSU Testing Center that
their scores have been received and that they need to bring a portfolio to the
advisement center for review. The review determines the course for which they
will receive credit. This information is relayed to the Art office and a letter
from the chair back to the SHSU Testing Center tells them the course for which
credit should be given. The SHSU Testing Center now notifies the student the
course for which they have credit. The AP credit policy at SHSU has some
flexibility in it. With the advent of WASH, the Art 161 and 271 courses aren’t
good choices for credit. Other courses are available though and depending on
the quality of the portfolio a course credit will be given.
