The BA vs BFA
Who completes which?
The decision to pursue one or the other
can be philosophic or logistic. First, the BFA is a “fine art” degree and the
opinion of many is that it is the preferred degree for the artist. The opinion
of many also is that the BA is a broader academic degree as it has a minor
requirement. (Academic in the sense that there are fewer art studio hours
involved.) Logistically, the BA requires 39 hours in the core, a minor of 18-27
hours and a foreign language element of 14 hours,
there are 30+ additional hours in the area of Art. Remaining hours can be
thought of as electives.
The BFA requires the same 39 core, and 81
hours of Art.
