Degree Declaration

What is it?

When a student first applies at SHSU, they will indicate that they have an idea of the academic area for which they have interest, ie: psychology, history, art, etc. That is called a soft declaration. The actual formal declaration is done on paper with signatures from the student, an advisor, chair and dean. This hard copy or hard declaration is done after a certain stage in the student career. In the Art area, for BFA students it is after the successful completion of the BFA review. For the BA student, at this time, they may do the hard declaration without doing the review but must wait until Junior status.
