| 2nd Annual Battle of the Piney Woods Luncheon to be hosted October 30th in Houston |
The second Sam Houston State-Stephen F. Austin Battle of the Piney Woods Luncheon will be at noon, Wed., Oct. 30, 2013, at the JW Marriott, 5150 Westheimer. Lumberjack coach J.C. Harper and athletic director Robert Hill will stir up the SFA faithful, while Bearkat coach Willie Fritz and athletic director Bobby Williams will fire up the SHSU group. The gala is the Wednesday before the game and will promote the annual rivalry. Every media outlet in Houston is expected to cover the event, as they did at last year’s highly successful gala.
Title sponsorships to the Battle of the Piney Woods Luncheon are $5,000 each. With a title sponsorship, a company will be allowed to hang a banner on the wall behind the head table, gets a table of 10 seats in the front row, speak at the podium briefly at the luncheon, have a 8x10 photo made with their respective head coach, and get their company logo on the event’s tickets, their company logo on the front page of the event’s paper program, and their company logo on the table signs at tables in the audience. Title sponsors also can hand out flyers or have a promotional booth in the hallway leading into the event.
There also is the premium table sponsor option. Premium tables are $2,500 (platinum sponsorship), $1,500 (gold sponsorship), $1,000 (silver sponsorship) and $500 (bronze sponsorship). All premium table sponsors will get their names in the event’s paper program. A regular table is $450; single tickets are $45 each. All tables are 10 seats each.
To pay for sponsorships, please contact the Touchdown Club’s Neal Farmer at 713-849-9860, or e-mail houtdclub@att.net. Checks made out to the TD Club can be mailed to Neal’s home office at 8106 Bo Jack Dr., Houston, Texas 77040. Feel free to call Neal for more information.

| Bearkat Champions Fund Drive Begins |

The Bearkat Champions Fund, now the sole fundraising arm for Sam Houston athletics kicks off its inaugural “Proud to be a Bearkat” membership drive this month.
Looking to set the stage for an era of even stronger intercollegiate athletic success in all sports, the Bearkat Champions Fund will build upon the momentum established by SHSU’s back-to-back NCAA Division I Football National Championship finals appearances.
“The momentum of athletics at Sam Houston right now is contagious,” Sam Houston State University President Dana Gibson said. “Our success in the past two years has been reflected in growth in all aspects of the University community. It’s time for everyone to show they are Proud to be a Bearkat.”
