Curriculum focus: Molecular Genetics and Botany
Research: Entomology: Involved in the estimation of deposited organic matter by instars of Trichoptera sp. within the Brazos river.

Current Interests:
Isolation of microorganisms that are able to utilize organic contamination from water and soil as a carbon source.
Development of Bioinformatics program involving the physiological pathways that lead to the deveolpment of alginate by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Rachelle Smith
Ph.D., Walden University in Applied Management and Decision Science

Specialization in leadership and organizational change

M.S., Department of Chemistry, Sam Houston State University, conferred December 2000
Research: Thesis: “Removal of Ammonia from Aqueous Solutions using Ion- Exchange”. The work focused on trying to improve the ammonia removal process (ARP) developed by Foster Wheeler Environmental and ThermoEnergy by changing various operating conditions. The conditions tested were the use of various ion-exchange resins, using a lower concentration of ammonia in the waste effluent, heating the ammonia influent to 60 °C and 68 °C, adjusting the pH of the ammonia solution during ion-exchange and increasing the zinc concentration of the regeneration solution.
Professional Experience:

1990-1997, Section Coordinator for Mountain States Analytical
Responsibilities included: Analysis and data reproduction for Inorganic Department
Experience with EPA methods involving AA, CVAA, GFAA, and ICP

Current Interests:
  Forensic Science
