SHSU Agriculture Ambassadors

Advisor: Dr. Stanley Kelley

The SHSU Agricultural Ambassadors represent Sam Houston State and the Department of Agricultural Sciences at various activities on and off campus. The Ambassadors serve as student representatives for the department in a number of public relations events. In addition to providing tours of facilities, the Ambassadors staff recruiting and information booths at various career fairs, stock shows, and agricultural conventions. The Ambassadors also attend high school career and college fairs to inform prospective students about SHSU. They also visit schools throughout the year to talk to groups of students.

The Ambassadors are a recruiting tool for the Ag. Department, by giving prospective students the opportunity to talk with experienced and informed college students about what our college, campus, and Huntsville have to offer.

The Ambassadors are made up of 15 students, which are selected by application and interview, who volunteer their time and often their money to travel to places to promote higher education and agriculture while boosting alumni relations and university support. Ambassadors visit high schools, career days, livestock shows, FFA & 4-H meetings, and also lending a helping hand to Undergraduate Admissions. The Ambassadors also assist professors and Undergraduate Admissions with on-campus tours for potential students, help at Saturdays @ Sam! and Sam Ag Day. They also attend conferences to network with over 300 Ag Ambassadors from universities across the nation to participate in professional development activities and seminars while learning new recruitment techniques to bring back to Sam Houston State.

Awards and Recognition:

Representatives have attended the Annual Ag Ambassador's Conference at the University of California, San Luis-Obispo.
