New Agriculture Economics Professor Joins Department of Agriculture Sciences

Dr. Kevin Smith recently joined the Department as a new assistant professor of Agriculture Economics. Dr. Smith brings a wealth of experience to the classroom from both industry and government, with his most recent position with the Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyard Division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Sam Houston Agribusiness Association Starts Anew

Traditionally an organization for agriculture business student involvement, the Sam Houston Agribusiness Association has started the fall semester with a revised structure and a new set of goals. With the retirement of former advisor, Dr. David G. Moorman, last spring and the graduation of the previous officer team, a new complement of members, officers, and advisors has risen to fill the void.

Student Teachers Begin Field Experience

For over 80 years, Sam Houston State University has prepared students to enter the vocational agriculture/agricultural science teaching profession. Almost 2900 students have passed through the program and the Fall 2003 semester includes a class of 11 students pursuing teacher certification.

The Sam Houston State University chapter of the Agriculture Honor Society of Delta Tau Alpha inducted 18 new members in a ceremony held on the evening of September 17, 2003. Delta Tau Alpha extends invitation of membership only to those who have exhibited exceptional quality and performance in the areas of scholarship, character and ethics, service, and leadership.
