Heat Wave Rolls Through
Huntsville
The SHSU Livestock Judging and Beef Cattle Show Teams hosted
the annual Heat Wave Prospect Show on the weekend of May 30th
and June 1st at the Walker County Fair Grounds. The youth sanctioned
cattle show serves as a fundraiser for the teams, raising over
$4,500 this year for the teams to apply toward travel expenses
and entry fees throughout the year. Additional financial assistance
is provided to the teams though the Office of Student Life.
A total of 202 cattle, 77 steers and 125 heifers, were exhibited
during the two-day show. The SHSU Fall Prevue, a similar event
generally held under much cooler conditions, is scheduled for
October. In addition to competing in livestock shows and exhibiting
the University’s purebred cattle, the judging and show
teams sponsor 4-H and FFA livestock evaluation events and showmanship
clinics for area youth. Dr. Stanley Kelley advises both teams.
