TEA Workshops Train Teachers

Nineteen agriculture science teachers from across Texas completed a three-week, Texas Education Agency funded, Agricultural Mechanization Certification Workshop. Dr. Billy Harrell and Dr. Joe Muller conducted the workshop in June. Teachers completing the workshop are certified to teach general agricultural mechanics in Texas high schools. The workshop has been conducted at SHSU annually since 1980 with some 400 teachers being certified. This was the first time the hands-on portion of the workshop was conducted in the new Agricultural Mechanization Center. SHSU was recently awarded approval from TEA to conduct the workshop again next summer. Teachers interested in obtaining certification in this area should contact Dr. Harrell at 409-294-1214.

For the first time in several years, we will also be conducting a three-week Horticulture Certification Workshop for TEA this coming summer. It will be conducted primarily by Dr. Sudeep Vyapari, with assistance from Dr. Doug Ullrich and Dr. Bobby Lane. For details on how to enroll in this workshop, contact Dr. Ullrich at 409-294-1188.
