VINCENT AMATO,

     retired professor of horticulture, died last December in Huntsville, Texas. Vince joined the faculty at SHSU in 1964, retiring in 1985. Dr. Amato was known for his fiery spirit and quick wit, along with his many contributions to the field of horticultural science.

John A. "Art" Nance,

     retired professor of animal science, passed away on November 29, 1999 of heart failure. His career at Sam Houston State spanned 31 years. At the height of his career, Dr. Nance was highly sought after to judge livestock shows. He coached the SHSU Livestock Judging Team for many years, with his students bringing home many team and individual honors. Dr. Nance retired in 1983, continuing to serve his church and pursue his ranching interests in the Huntsville area until his sudden and unexpected death.
