Block & Bridle Aids Community

Though Block and Bridle is open to all majors, the primary activities of its members revolve around animals used in agriculture. In an effort to educate others regarding livestock, club members have conducted the Children's Barnyard for the past several years. Held in the Indoor Arena at the Agriculture Center, the two day event draws over 1000 pre-k and kindergarten children and teachers each year. Most are from the Huntsville area, but the word has spread and busloads of children are coming from miles around. In addition to touching and playing with the various livestock and poultry on display, the children are provided with brief presentations and displays by club members on how products from these animals are used in everyday life. This year's barnyard also included educational displays staffed by club members from the Ag Mechanics Club, Horticulture Club, and Collegiate FFA.

This year's B&B officers are President Dannell Thomas (Houston), Vice President Sheyenne Krysher (Santa Fe), Secretary Michella Collum (Alvin), Treasurer Christy Banks (Katy), and Reporter Brandon Gregson (Conroe). Ag Council representatives are Stephanie Dormire (Houston) and Josh Lucas (Gonzales). Other events scheduled for the coming year include the Ag Olympics and a Skeet Shoot at the Possum Walk Shooting Preserve, both fun departmental events aimed at improving camaraderie among students.
