Ag Mechanics Club Affiliates with ASAE

The SHSU Ag Mech Club has attained student branch affiliation with the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE). Affiliation will provide members with the opportunity to participate in many activities at the state and national levels. As student members, they will be eligible to participate in professional meetings, mini and lawn tractor pulls, have interaction with professionals in agricultural mechanization, and receive Resource, the national ASAE publication. Local club members have the option of paying national dues. Twenty members have paid their national dues to date for the 1999-2000 academic year. The club's first trip of the year was to Corpus Christi to participate in the Texas Section Annual Meeting.

The purpose of the Ag Mechanics Club is to promote agricultural mechanics as a career option and to bring industry representatives to campus. Also, the club works to promote job opportunities and to support agricultural mechanization events. During the fall 1998 semester, the Ag Mechanics Club became a recognized student organization. In recognition for an excellent year, the club received a Sammy Award as Outstanding New Student Organization from the Division of Student Services. This year's officers are Ben Burkhalter (Rice), President; Michael Pharris (Conroe), Vice President; Dannell Thomas (Houston), Treasurer; Stephanie Herring (Dayton), Reporter. Ag Council representatives are Joel Haby (Cuero) & Tony Leal (Stafford). The club advisors are Dr. Billy Harrell, Dr. Bill Jowell, and Dr. Joe Muller.
