Careers in Accounting

This is an exciting time to be an accountant! Because all business tasks require accounting information, a strong job market in both private and public accounting is expected to continue into the foreseeable future. But what do accountants do?

Accountants gather information and report on the economic events of a business entity; auditors verify the accuracy of those reports. Private accountants are employed by businesses, government and not-for-profit entities. Job opportunities include bookkeepers, payroll clerks, general accountants, budget analysts, cost accountants, internal auditors and information technology auditors. Public accountants provide accounting services to the public on a fee basis and can be employed individually or by a local, regional or national public accounting firm.
