Beta Alpha Psi

Beta Alpha Psi is a national scholastic and professional society for financial information professionals.  Sam Houston State University’s Kappa Mu Chapter has been in existence since 2001.  The organization encourages and provides recognition for scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field, including the promotion and practice of accounting, finance and information systems.

Numerous firms and business organizations regularly make technical and professional presentations to members throughout each Fall and Spring semester.  Besides learning about such important topics as how to interview and proper business ethics, members get to interact with the professionals making the presentations.  Members also get to interact with professionals at the annual Meet the Firms Night during the Fall semester.

Besides participating at professional presentations, members also provide community service in a number of ways.  Members provide free tutoring to students in certain accounting courses, as well as spend time helping local charities such as the SAAFE house, the Rita B. Huff Animal shelter, the Good Shepherd Mission, and Habitat for Humanity.  Members can also benefit from other chapter activities, such as serving as an officer, attending national and regional Beta Alpha Psi meetings, and socially interacting with other students and professors at chapter events.

For more information, interested students should contact Dr. Janice Taylor Morris at jtm017@shsu.edu or shsu_bap@yahoo.com.
