The event, which will benefit graduate students in the college, will feature personal visits with the experts, who will lead a table of eight over dinner.

The evening will begin with cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and conversation.

“This event will benefit graduate students in the College of Education who at times find themselves in a financial bind,” said Debra Price, associate dean for research and graduate programs. “Financial difficulties can prevent these students from enrolling for a semester or maintaining continuous enrollments in dissertation hours. Proceeds from the event will alleviate that stress and assist our students in maintaining continuous enrollment.”

Speakers for the evening will include experts within the field of education who will discuss topics of interest to other educators.

Among the 21 discussion leaders will be SHSU associate athletic director for student services Chris Thompson and mass communication department chair Jean Bodon, who will discuss “Defining Success as an Educator in a Demanding Environment” and “Revealing Human Faces in a Refugee Camp,” respectively.

Also leading a conversation will be Huntsville ISD superintendent Howell Wright, who will discuss “Becoming a District of Innovation: Thoughts Along the Way.”

“An Evening With Education” is open to the public, and guests are encouraged to reserve their tickets prior to the registration deadline on Oct. 14. Tickets for the evening are $75, a portion of which is tax deductible. Sponsorships also are available.
