LSC/Sam Houston State University Agreements
Support Time Compressed Degree Programs

Reverse Transfer:
Reverse Transfer will allow students to transfer course work from Sam Houston State University to participating colleges to complete some degree requirements for the associate degree.  This program is specifically designed to allow students to receive the advantages pursuant to completion of the associate degree when they leave college prior to degree completion.  In the professional job market, there is a clear distinction between having attended college and having graduated from college.  Many colleges will allow the transfer of 30 or more hours from Sam Houston State University to satisfy associate degree requirements.  Thus the university courses count towards both degree programs, in essence, another form of dual credit.  All colleges may participate in the program subject to college guidelines.  Extensive program support is available with the partner schools listed at the bottom of the main online articulation page.

“Joint Admission” provides students a mechanism to maximize utilization of facilities and programs offered jointly by your college and Sam Houston State University.  Benefits typically include:

1)         The ability to attend both schools simultaneously or alternate between institutions at your convenience.  Both institutions endeavor to support separate and shared financial aid.
2)         An SHSU picture ID/bank card.
3)         A Sam Houston State University email account accessible from any Internet connection on the world wide.
4)         Sufficient disk space on a Sam Houston State University Internet Server to create and maintain a home page and store important files from one semester to the next (remains in effect over the summer into the fall semester unless the student fails to reregister at one of the institutions).
5)         Access to the Sam Houston State University library and to computer facilitates operated by Sam Houston State University Computer Services.
6)         Under Joint Admissions, a student is encouraged to request the college registrar to transmit their transcript electronically after grades are posted to SHSU every semester.  Their transcript at SHSU will be updated to reflect all college transfer credit.  The student will be able to review the transcript including transfer credit from all institutions attended online at their convenience.  In addition, information in the updated transcript will be reflected in trial degree plan generation software available online.
7)         Reduced application fee to SHSU.

Students should not to apply for Joint Admissions till after they have accumulated at least 12 college academic credit hours with a GPA greater than 2.0.  Upon meeting these requirements, applicants may be accepted to Joint Admissions based on their college record as opposed to high school transcript information such as GPA and class rank.  High school students are encouraged to apply for joint admission as soon as they are eligible.  Upon completing all legal requirement of the state of Texas for university admittance (e.g., completion of high school diploma), you are assured you will be admitted to SHSU and the transfer credit from your college will be available.  Applicants must meet all SHSU admittance requirements at the time they actually transfer to SHSU.

After acceptance under joint admission, the applicants must continually meet all admission requirements for both the college and university to retain their eligibility to participate in the program.  Students accepted under joint admission may simply transfer, alternate enrollment between institutions, or co-enroll at their discretion.

Cooperative Advising:
Cooperative Advising is a program allowing full time professional councilors at partner colleges to apply for special administrative computer accounts at SHSU.  These accounts allow advisors direct access to transcripts of college transfer students in real time via the web for use in the advising process.  Transcript information and online articulation are powerful tools designed to help students achieve academic goals.

Councilors are also able to access unofficial degree plan generation software for students participating in joint admissions.  The degree plan generation software will allow transfer students and Joint Admission students to determine exactly how their transfer credit applies to the chosen field of study at SHSU.  Official degree plans may only be obtained from the proper authority at SHSU.  Official degree plan information is available to college councilors online after the student has officially declared their major at SHSU.  Timely access to transcript and degree plan information improves the quality of the advising process.

“Time Compressed Degree Programs”
Time Compressed Degree Plans provide a student the means to complete the high school diploma, associate, and baccalaureate degrees in 6 years utilizing “Time Compressed Degree Plans.”  In many fields, the masters degree may be completed in one additional year.  Aggressive participants may reduce the total time to attain these degrees one additional year by registering in summer school and/or enrolling for higher than average course loads during the fall and spring semesters.  Time compressed degree plans typically result in more than 30% savings for the total cost of education and allow the applicant to enter the work for force two or more years early.   The traditional path to education requires 4 years for high school, 4 to 5 years for the baccalaureate (may include the associate), and an additional year for the masters degree for a minimum of 9 years.
