President's Letter

Sam Houston State University is committed to providing its employees, students, and visitors a safe environment to work, study, learn, and play. Conducting these endeavors in a safe manner is the responsibility of every campus citizen and is best achieved through proper engineering, education, use of protective equipment, and adherence to university policies. Each student, employee, and contractor is responsible for understanding and practicing appropriate safety procedures for his or her own safety and the protection of others.

All Deans, Directors, Department Heads, Chairpersons, and Supervisors shall take an active role in the University’s safety program by incorporating safety measures into the procedures used to conduct the business of the University. This Safety Manual has been developed to assist you.

It is your positive safety attitude, your knowledge of safe practices, and your actions that will determine the success of our safety program.
