Setting a Standard for Excellence
Sam Houston State University recognizes the value of our faculty by assisting in finding and providing funding and resources to enhance research endeavors. The added depth of our faculty's increasing knowledge is directly passed back to the SHSU students in our classrooms.
SHSU is proud to note our faculty members are being acknowledged as leaders in Science. Grants from the National Science Foundation grew 245% from 2003 to 2008.
The Office of ORSP provides weekly announcements of external grant sources.
SHSU also provides internal funding to encourage faculty research. These grants are called the Faculty Research Grant, which is a summer grant for up to $5,000, and the Enhancement Research Grant that ranges from $5,000 to $15,000. Details are available at the ORSP.
Recent Campus Recipients
Dr. Lei Chen from Computer Science was a 2009 recipient of an SHSU Faculty Research Grant. Asked how the grant helped, Dr. Chen responded “I had two journal articles published as a direct result of having the time to focus solely on my research.”
