The Toward EXcellence, Access, & Success (TEXAS) Grant, a state financial aid program, is available at Sam Houston State University (SHSU). If you are deemed to be eligible and receive this grant, it may pay your tuition and fees up to 150 hours or six years whichever is achieved first.
Recipients of the TEXAS Grant must meet certain criteria which includes:
- Accepted for Admission at SHSU
- Texas Residency
- graduate of a public or accredited private high school
in Texas in the past 16 months; or
- Received first Associate's Degree within past 12 months
- graduate of a public or accredited private high school
in Texas in the past 16 months; or
- Recommended or Distinguished High School Curriculum
- Demonstrate financial need
- Enrollment of at least 3/4 time (9 credit hours) basis in an
undergraduate degree program
- Maintain academic progress program requirements
- No conviction of a felony or of a crime involving a controlled
substance
- Can not currently hold a bachelor's degree
- Meet all criteria of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board program rules and regulations
If you are a high school graduate within the past 16 months and believe you meet the curriculum requirement, please make sure that the Admissions Office has received your final high school transcript noting your graduation date and curriculum under which you graduated.
If you received your first Associate's Degree within the past 12 months, please make sure that Admissions has received your college academic transcript noting your degree and graduation date.
If you have not completed your financial aid folder please do
so as soon as possible since the majority of financial aid, including
the TEXAS Grant, is on a first-come first-served basis. If you
have any questions please do not hesitate to contact your financial
aid counselor for guidance.
Community colleges have additional flexibility in awarding TEXAS
Grant funds.
