Please contact the Student Advising and Mentoring Center (SAM Center) toll free at 1.866.364.5211 or 936.294.4444 to be assigned to an academic advisor. You may also email the SAM Center at samcenter@shsu.edu.

 

Make your plans to attend one of the New Student Orientation programs. For additional information, call 936.294.1782, or for online orientation registration, you may access the website at www.shsu.edu/orientation. You may obtain general information about Sam Houston State through our website at www.shsu.edu.

 

Students attending public schools of higher education in the State of Texas may be required to take the THEA placement test or one of the alternative tests (ACCUPLACER, ASSET, COMPASS). Check with the Registrar's Office concerning your status as far as TSI requirements are concerned. After determining your status regarding these requirements, you may access information about these tests by contacting the SHSU Testing Center.

The Bearkat OneCard is the official ID of Sam Houston State University. The Bearkat OneCard signifies your status as an active member of the Sam Houston State University community, serving as your official student identification card and much more. Your card is required for meal plans, Bearkat Express, library usage, access to assigned residence hall perimeters, entrance to all athletic events and university sponsored functions, access to the HKC/Recreational Sports facilities, the University Health Center, Cashiers Office, applying financial aid, managing financial refund preferences, and student payroll.For additional information, call 936.294.2273, stop by the Bearkat OneCard Office located in the Estill Building, Suite 230, or visit our website at www.shsu.edu/onecard.
