Program Type
Master of Arts (MA)
Master of Science (MS)
Program Length
32 Credit Hours
38 Credit Hours with a Minor
Description
The Department of Biological Sciences offers two master's degrees:
Master of Arts in Biology
The MA is well suited for many training objectives but is more often recommended for secondary teachers who wish to increase their competency in biology and in another field. Students opting to include a minor will complete 26 graduate hours in biology and 12 graduate credit hours in a minor field that logically supports the major. This degree is not recommended for students who plan to pursue doctoral studies.
Master of Science in Biology
The MS allows for a specialization in one of several areas of biology and is designed for students planning to pursue careers in research, at the collegiate level, or in environmental biology with governmental agencies and industry. This degree is also appropriate for students planning to continue their training in a PhD program at other institutions or professional schools. The MS is a research-oriented degree and requires the completion of a thesis.
