Description
The Second Language Instruction certificate is designed for national and international in-service teachers who work with students learning English as a second or foreign language at elementary, secondary, university, or adult education programs. It includes training in theoretical and applied linguistics, second language teaching methodology, and the cultural aspects of language learning, teaching, and assessment.
The certificate requires completion of the following coursework:
- BESL 5302 Social, Cultural and Language Influences on Learning
- BESL 5301 Applied Linguistics for Classroom Teachers
- BESL 5303 Teaching ESL: Oral Language Communication
- BESL 5304 Language Acquisition and Development for Bilingual and ESL Programs
This certificate has been approved by the Higher Education Coordinating Board and is awarded by Sam Houston State University.
