Teaching Career and Technology

Career and Technology Education teacher certification prepares you to teach at the junior high or senior high levels in public schools. Career and Technology Education teachers instruct students in academic and hands-on laboratory courses, under the Career Cluster they are certified for.

You will be prepared to teach Career and Technology Education in public schools. The program includes classes in pedagogy (art if teaching) and courses in specific subject matter that the student selects. The Engineering Technology bachelors prepares you to teach varying courses, meaning some but not all courses offered, in the following five out of sixteen career clusters taught here in Texas:

  • Architecture & Construction
  • Arts, A/V Technology, and Communication
  • Information Technology
  • Manufacturing
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

MINOR: For certification purposes the minor is considered to be Secondary Education. No other minor is required, but if an additional teaching field is desired, the student must meet the requirements of that teaching field. For the degree of Bachelor of Science and a teaching certificate with an integrated teaching field in technology, the student must complete a minimum of 48 semester hours in Engineering Technology and 21 semester hours in Secondary Education.
