Description

The Educational Diagnostician Certification is designed for individuals seeking to improve and extend their professional skills in special education. This certification is also offered in combination with an MEd in Special Education.

A valid teaching certificate, two years classroom teaching experience, and a master's degree in education are required for state certification. For those who do not have a Master's Degree, the Educational Diagnostician Program is offered in conjunction with the Master's of Special Education.

Cohorts are offered at The Woodlands Center and Northwest Campus - University Park.

Application Requirements

Complete the following steps in order:

  1. Graduate Application through ApplyTexas.org
  2. Pay Application Fee to Graduate Studies (instructions in ApplyTexas application)
  3. Apply to the SHSU Educational Diagnostician Preparation Program if seeking Texas Educational Diagnostician certification (Instructions)
  4. Pay the $55 Texas Education Accountability System for Educator Preparation Programs Fee (paid to the TEA as required by TAC 229.9.7) if seeking Texas Educational Diagnostician certification
  5. Upload the following documents to Bearkat Link:
    1. Official transcript(s) from the baccalaureate and masters degree granting institution(s)
    2. Two Recommendation Forms
    3. Writing Sample
    4. Copy of Applicant's Teaching Certificate
    5. School Service Record
