McNair Scholar Achievements

Christhian Cadena was accepted to Harvard University in the virology Ph.D. program. He received full funding from Harvard and began his Ph.D. program in Fall, 2015. He graduated with a B.S. in Biology from SHSU May, 2014 and completed a post-baccalaureate program at the University of Pennsylvania.


Dr. Juanita Garcia graduated from SHSU in May 2006 with a degree in Criminal Justice and went on to complete a Ph.D. in Sociology at Texas A&M University. She graduated with her Ph.D. in December 2014 and is currently completing a post-doc at Ohio State University. Dr. Garcia was honored as a TRIO Achiever at the annual conference for Texas Association of Student Special Services Programs (TASSSP) on March 2, 2015 in Fort Worth, Texas.


Kayla Hankins was accepted to the Boyce Thompson Institute's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Cornell University in Summer, 2015, where she conducted plant research. Currently, Ms. Hankins is working with Dr. Chris Randle in the SHSU Biology department on her McNair research project.


Nicole Lozano graduated from SHSU in 2009 with a B.S. in Psychology. She is currently in her final year in a doctoral program at the University of Nebraska Lincoln and will obtain her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from UNL in 2016.


Christopher Cruz graduated from SHSU in 2014 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. He enrolled in a master's program at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University in Fall 2014. His academic track is National Security and Diplomacy with concentrations in Middle Eastern Studies, Intelligence, and American Diplomacy. Currently, he is completing an internship at the U.S. Embassy in Muscat, Oman with the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs.
