GCJD Alumni of the Month: Stacy Hyde

Stacy Hyde is this month’s GCJD Alumni of the Month. Hyde is an Associate Producer for KPRC channel 2 news, the NBC affiliate in Houston. She works with producers and reporters to create dynamic evening newscasts. She graduated in the fall of 2015, with a double major in Political Science and Mass Communication with an emphasis in multi-platform journalism.

Hyde’s passion for journalism was ignited by her work at the Houstonian student newspaper where she served as the advertising manager, and contributing reporter. She also played a key role in the annual orientation edition of the paper.

Her passion won her the coveted Dan Rather internship; an opportunity to work with the veteran journalist in New York City. During her time at SHSU Hyde was also a weather anchor for KSHU Channel 7, the treasurer for the National Broadcasting Society, and the producer of her own radio news show.

Hyde was a part of the GCJD Fall 2014 class, but that wasn't her first introduction to the center. She started volunteering to help work booths and events when her now husband, Connor Hyde, was in the class.

"I was intimidated to take the GCJD class at first, and I was even more intimidated to work with Kelli Arena. But that's where I learned my most valuable lessons. GCJD prepared me for the real world. Kelli would never accept something, whether it was an idea, a presentation, or an article, unless it met her standards. It was through those standards I learned how to ask the difficult questions, take criticism, present clear ideas and meet a deadline ahead of time."
