Get Started as a Graduate Student

Follow these steps to apply to a master's, doctoral, or certification program with daytime, evening or online classes.

*Please Note: The admission process differs for international and non-degree seeking students.

Apply for Admission to SHSU

Complete your online application through ApplyTexas.org to apply to SHSU. ApplyTexas is the general online application for most universities in the state of Texas.

Submit the Non-refundable Application Fee

You have the option to pay the application fee through ApplyTexas or you may send a check or money order to the Office of Graduate Admissions. You may also pay online by credit card [more info].

Submit Required Documentation

All applicants must send an official transcript from their baccalaureate degree granting institution to the Office of Graduate Admissions. Additional application materials may be required depending on your chosen degree program.

Check Your Application Status

After you've submitted the application and other required admission materials, verify that they have been received by the Office of Graduate Admissions through the Sam Web Application Status program.

Complete Advising for Your Program

Discuss your degree plan option with the graduate advisor for your degree program.

Register for Classes

View the Registration Schedule to verify when you can register. This is available through My Sam. You may also view the "How to Register" video.

Plan for tuition

Apply your financial aid and/ or pay your account balance though My Sam. Estimate your tuition and explore scholarship, assistantship, and other financial aid opportunities.
