College of Criminal Justice
Articulation Agreement for 2002 and 2004 Catalogue
Years
The College of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University is pleased
to offer a program allowing students
completing the AA degree at Fulton-Montgomery Community College maximum transfer credit towards
the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State
University. The degree from SHSU requires a minimum of 128 hours. A maximum
of 66 non-kinesiology hours may be transferred from a community college.
Courses listed as "upper division (300 or 400 course numbers)"
must be completed at the senior institution. Upper division courses may
not be transferred from a community college to the senior institution
to satisfy baccalaureate requirements. With careful selection of electives,
a student may attain an AA or AS degree while satisfying the first two
years of the corresponding bachelors degree at Sam Houston State University.
Area of Concentration in Criminal Justice at Fulton-Montgomery Community College
Students desiring to work towards a major in criminal justice can complete
the requirements for the associate of arts degree and the area of concentration
(AOC) hours for criminal justice. There is a 15-hour minimum (9 required)
for this area of concentration up to a maximum of 21 hours. Students
must complete at least 9 hours of the 15 minimum within the colleges
of Fulton-Montgomery Community College to receive the AOC designation. For advising assistance,
contact
one of the criminal justice faculty members. Upon successful completion,
graduates will receive an AA degree with an AOC in Criminal Justice.
The AA degree requires 61 hours (42 hours core plus 19 hours including
the AOC). A student may count some courses taken for credit at a senior
institution simultaneously towards the AA degree. Please speak to an
advisor or counselor for details. Completing the AA degree while working
on the BA degree at the senior institution offers many potential advantages
to transfer students.

**SHSU requirements for a degree in criminal justice.
A maximum of 66 credit hours (excluding kinesiology) may be transferred
from a community college to Sam Houston State University. Students should
carefully select courses to complete the associate degree while minimizing
the number of hours that might exceed the 66 hour cap for transfer credit.
All Evaluations are based on the SHSU 2002-2004 catalogue and Fulton-Montgomery Community College. The respective catalogues are the final word if a discrepancy
appears between this pamphlet and a catalogue
SHSU courses with 300 and 400 level numbers are considered as upper
division and must be completed at SHSU. Credit may not be transferred
from a community college for upper division courses.
Sam Houston State University and Fulton-Montgomery Community College are both accredited by the
Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
(SACS).
